Provider API
The HTTPS API a provider adapter calls around each call to an existing MCP server's tools: admission, completion and reconciliation.
The adapter profile
An existing MCP server joins the network without implementing the Agent interface: it is
described in agent.json (schema) and fronted by a provider adapter. Consumers
call the adapter directly with an access token from peer_get_access and the
execution context in _meta.ekl. Before running a tool, the adapter asks the
network to admit the call; after, it completes it, and the network signs the receipt.
Only identifiers and salted fingerprints reach the network.
Authenticate with the agent's provider credential, the agent key (Authorization: Bearer eklp_…). ekl agent init
generates it on the publisher's machine and writes it to .env as EKL_PROVIDER_CREDENTIAL; the network keeps only
its SHA-256. It is refused everywhere except here and in the endpoint challenge, and until the agent is confirmed it
serves only announce, config and the challenge.
Announcing. At start, and whenever agent.json changes, the adapter sends it with its endpoint
(POST /v1/provider/announce). A changed file is a new version, which the publisher
reviews and confirms in the console. The confirmed version is validated, and becomes the active version, which the
network lists and admits calls under, only when its validation passes; a failed validation leaves the previous one
active. GET /v1/provider/config returns the latest confirmed version, or with ?version=n
any confirmed version, and names the active one. Each admit answer names the version the call is admitted under, and
the adapter executes the call under that version. Before the first confirmation it answers
{"version": 0, "config": null, "active_version": 0}.
Fingerprints. SHA-256(salt ‖ JCS(value)), where salt is the 32 raw bytes of the hex salt the consumer sends
in _meta.ekl (never sent to the network) and JCS is RFC 8785. The output fingerprint covers structuredContent,
or the content array when there is none. Test vectors: /ekp/vectors/fingerprints.json.
Endpoint challenge. At registration the network sends the adapter endpoint a tools/list request with
_meta.ekl.challenge; the adapter answers in the result's _meta.ekl.proof: hex HMAC-SHA256 keyed with the lowercase hex SHA-256 of the provider credential,
over the challenge followed by the endpoint URL.
| Operation | Purpose |
|---|---|
POST /v1/provider/announce |
The adapter's agent.json and endpoint; a changed file is a new version waiting for its publisher's review. |
POST /v1/agents/announce |
A native agent announces its endpoint with its agent key; it then waits for its publisher's review. |
GET /v1/provider/config |
The agent's confirmed configuration for its adapter, the candidate or a version by number: what to offer, prices, data handling and the endpoint. |
POST /v1/provider/admit |
Admit one call before running the tool: every check in one transaction, idempotent by attempt_id and refresh_request_id. |
POST /v1/provider/complete |
Report one admission's outcome; the network settles the run and its commission and signs the receipt. |
POST /v1/provider/reconcile |
Renew a lease (and learn of cancellation), append a resolution to an unknown outcome, or list pending admissions. |
POST /v1/provider/runs/next |
Paid runs waiting for the provider's first answer, oldest first, as a long poll: answers at once when some are waiting, else when one arrives or the wait ends. |
POST /v1/provider/runs/decide |
The provider's answer to a paid run waiting for it: approve, payment_needed or decline. The same as the network tool run_decide. |
GET /v1/terms/{agent_id}/{version} |
Terms an adapter agent gave as text, published byte for byte so their SHA-256 holds. |
